Hi.
I've been absent for a couple of days...you probably haven't noticed. The thing is, the wife and I have been involved in a project, and it has utterly consumed us.
Yeah, I set that up like we're curing cancer or feeding sick malnutritioned babies or something, I know. And, if you believe in the seven deadly sins, we continue to have Pride and Envy nailed down pretty good. Oh crap...and Gluttony...and Sloth...dammit...
No, dear, judgmental friends, this is about a floor, and the things you place on it. You see, we saved our little pennies, and bought a new floor. Dave Ramsey would be proud of us, we actually paid cash for the sucker, and didn't contribute to any national bad credit decisions. Here she is.
Took us four years, but we saved up and bought a floor. To go on top of a floor. The irony and waste of that I choose not to address, instead, let's focus on what has been an increasingly frustrating for us...a complete lack of talent and ability to decorate.
And I mean, we suck hard. To look at the picture above, that looks ok, right? I mean, it may not be your taste, but it looks ok? I cannot describe to you what it has taken to get to this point...Trial of 100 things that look horrible, and in the end, it just looks...ok.
How do you talented souls out there decorate so well? We have a neighbor on our street who puts rooms together in a random, eclectic manner, and they look fantastic. My wife and I stand in a showroom like a couple of neanderthals screaming "UUUnnngghhhh!! Me need BROWN!!
Truly frustrating process. And by the way, who the hell wants to pay $2000 for frickin rug that sits under a table that only gets used when the frickin POPE comes over? NO. THANK. YOU.
Anyway, I'm back. Happy Frickin Sunday. Sorry, I had a really bad night's sleep, and now I am on Daddy Duty for the day. I'm gonna start with coffee, and see if I can improve this mood...bleh.
One more thing...Tuesday's Tribute was an even bigger success in Week 2...you think you might wanna play this week? We'd love to read you...

Ok, ok...I'm here...dammit...

I think the key to decorating is to use things you love and experiment with them. There are little tricks that help (use no more than 3 colors in a room and use each color at least 3 times, etc.), but overall, it's about what you're comfortable with.
You know, I bet your neighbor would be flattered if asked for a wee bit of help.
I think the room looks splendoriffic! I'm not the pope, but I'd love to be invited to dine in that room.
I understand. I have thrown out more than I have kept in the journey of decorating a romm...a house and still end up with "ok".
But "ok" is so much better than the dorm room look I started with.
I am not one of the talented ones when it comes to decorating. People tell me they love my house, that it is cozy and makes them feel comfortable. I think that is just their way to say it is small. :)
Looks like you all are doing a good job!
I think your room looks awesome! Glad you're back.
It looks great. Did you put the floor in yourselves as well? We need to have ours refinished or start anew, but I refuse to increase my debt for a shinny new floor, as you put it not many see. And the Pope is not coming to my house. That would be like PCH showing up with the $10,000,000 check. Finally my kids would have it scratched and scuffed within a few hours. Then men in white coats would have to take me away in one.
he he he, I feel ya pain with the decoration and trial and error. I apologize if I don't seem sane today, I've finally caught the 'bug'. I'm effin' sick. Yeah, but the floor looks great. I want a floor like that. If I could ... I would have even gone into HOCK for it. Alas, I'm in an apartment. So the floor I have is the floor I'm stuck with. I'll go into that story ... someday. Not ready thus far.
Oh and at least you have a table ... I have a tea tray.
How do my hubs and I decorate.... pretty much like you do. By the seat of our pants. Hoping and praying it turns out and no one laughs at us too badly after spending so much $$$$.
You (and wife) did good Jay, it looks gorgeous!
ok, so the floor is gorgeous and the rest of the room is too!
please come over and decorate anytime. anything is an improvement over a house littered with baby junk.
LOL. Shouldn't floors only come in brown? It would make things so much easier. We're going to have to redo our bathroom soon and I'm scared. Mainly b/c hubs is all "I can do it all by myself" and I'm all "there is no way in hell you are getting it done in 2 weekends."
By the way, the room looks great.
Hehe I totally understand your frustration. We just moved into a new house and have started decorating...after spending lots of time and money I am now questing the color scheme lol!
I love the floors! I think the room looks very nice. We redid our family room with wood floors 2 years ago & are still saving up to buy the large 'throw rug' we want for the middle of it
i think it looks great. the floor are gorgeous.
my key to decorating is i just don't care. i can't live with the stress of trying to keep my kids from trashing everything. i don't have a formal anything, but maybe one day i will. once the dogs, cats and kids are out of the house. in the meantime, we just live among the crap.
The floor is BEAUTIFUL. We decided several years ago to rip up the carpet in our upstairs and low and behold underneith we found the most AMAZING hardwood floors ever!! We cleaned them and I have loved them ever since!!
You are excused for your absence because that floor is a beauty. I like the light fixture. It all just works. Cut yourself some slack, man.
Decorating can be so hard, but I LOVE the floor and the table and chairs are great!! You did an awesome job:)
I love it!
Dont feel bad. I think your dining room looks great. The only decorating that gets done around here is by the kids....and not in a good way. Middle son has taken to drawing pictures and taping them all over the walls of every room and door. And dont dare take them down. So look at your room and feel better knowing you dont have 5year old artwork plastered all over the walls above your brand spanking new floor.
my night sucked the big one too! and my arse is draggin' today :( oh well, such is life, see you tomorrow!! have a great Sunday!!
btw...the rug looks great!
I don't decorate. Hell, I don't even have a couch to decorate around. Your floor is pretty though!
Glad you're back. Congrats on finishing the floor. I think that's awesome that you guys saved up and paid cash for it. Feels good not to owe anything. I wish I knew of some good decorating blogs. I love the idea of decorating, I'm just not too good at it. Hope the coffee gave you a jumpstart and that your day of Daddy Duty was great. I've been loving Tuesday's tribute and posted for it the past two weeks. I'm contemplating what I should give tribute to this week. Hmmmm...
Your new floor is gorgeous and I happen to love the way the room is decorated. Well done!
You are forgiven for being absent, because that floor is BEAUTIFUL! And who says the room decor is just 'ok'? Looks better than OK to me! ;)
i think your room is beautiful. we had hardwood installed in our house, and do NOT want to put a rug on it. dang, we paid so much, I don't want to cover it up!
lovely! We have hardwoods too and cover it with a rug- the best of us like to waste it, I guess!
I think it looks really terrific!
I'm confused--did you install the pretty wood floor or just the rug? My decorating style is pretty much cheap stuff that I like. BAHAHAHAHA I NEED wood floors so badly. The woman we bought the house had cream colored carpet. I swear it took like TWO frickin days for the kids to stain it.
We paid someone to come into our house and pick out all of our colours for us. She even went shopping with me for flooring, tile, granite etc. I know...pretty terrible huh?
The floor looks great! After we moved into our house, we discovered that the previous owner had covered up a great mosaic tile floor. We've since pulled out all the carpet. It looks so retro and cool - and amazingly was free!
I think it looks great......but, if you don't like it, add some color......it'll make parts of the room pop.......and the floor is gorgeous! We had wood floors in our house in Oregon and I miss them terribly.......sigh......:)
Looks great!!!!!!!!!!!
