I want to say it's because of technology.
I find that I can't look back and think of the times that my "Dad" was silly with me. Now I don't often talk about my extended family other than my mother, as my family tree starts to resemble a family "stump" under scrutiny. Or a shrubbery. Whatever.
See, I had a Father, and a "Dad". Two separate guys. I spent roughly 24 years with my "Dad", and in that time I don't remember much silliness. I remember decency, and love, lots of lectures, hard work, and a good provider. I have good memories that attempt to counteract the ones that concluded our relationship, and plenty of serious memories to accompany the disappointment I handed him.
And now I'm a Father. And a "Dad". And I have plenty of serious and frustration to share with my kids...I was well taught. I try like hell to reign it in, but it's always there. And I can't remember much silliness back then, but it may have been there. So maybe it's because of technology. That I can tape it, shoot it, play it, broadcast it, archive it.
So when they look back at what kind of "Father" I was, or what kind of "Dad" I proved to be, maybe there will be more proof that I wasn't always angry.
Also Thanks to 5 Minutes for Mom for "Wordless" Wednesday...I always have such a problem being wordless...

The BEST post yet! She IS the best Scooterer ever!
hahaha! Too cute! I love the comentary. Poor kid was getting pretty banged up but I bet she loved it!
You are such a wonderful Dad!! Your kids are blessed to have such a fun guy as a father, and to have someone who realizes how important it can be to cherish and record all the moments - silly (and otherwise)
Hey buddy, get off the girls toe!! Something tells me your daughter won't need this video to remember that you are an awesome dad.
This is so precious - made me cry. Be sure to save this for her wedding video. Seriously, it's not far away. You're a really, really, really good dad. Your daughter's giggle proves that.
Awesome! Such a fun daddy....except for the toe stepping part. LOL
You are an awesome Dad, Father, Pops. Keep it up brother.
Get off the poor girl already!
Now willscootering be a summer or a winter sport?!?
I love her little giggle. Love it. The video is great, but I don't think she'll need it to remember having fun with you.
Geeze! Her toes JAY! lol!!! I love listening to her laugh. "What's the olympics?" TOO CUTE!!!! You're an awesome dad/father. You rock Jay.
And... can I come live in your neighborhood??? That's frickin' Beverly Hills compared to where I live. LOL
Maybe I'll show my ghetto ridden gang baggin' blue vs. red 15 Mexicans to a 1 bedroom apartment neighborhood one day. LOL (so not a racist comment i'm married to a mexican, it's just a fact.)
That is so awesome...sounds like you are a GREAT dad! Happy Wordful Wednesday!
I love this!!!! You, my friend, show great potential! Now, this is coming from an old lady of 60. So, I must say, you're going to be a Dad and a Father...and a provider, and a guider...but most of all they'll remember the LOVE.
My Wordful is posted. It gives a whole new meaning to "Hang in There" Have a great Wednesday
A great post! You are such an awesome dad!
But I am concerned about her poor little toes! (-:
oh jay... you're a great daddy.
there wasn't a lot of silliness in my family growing up, either.
When I had my first two children in 1984 and 1986, I recall being the mom that was all about work, keeping my kids immaculate and my home perfect. Since that time, I've had three more and I've spent the last 7 yrs as a single Mom. I'm still picky about my home and I love neat kids, but we have a BLAST!!!! I keep things orderly but never let that get in the way of having fun. Just kicking back and enjoying some silliness with my kids is my FAVORITE WAY to spend a day. Hop in the car and take a roadtrip to no place or just hang out and have stand up comedy night here in my house. Yes. We're strange.
My kids love it. I grew up with parents who were so fun.. but see my sister and brother focused on wealth and huge homes instead of enjoying their children before they are grown. My kids don't have a 7000 sq ft house. They have a HP computer instead of a Mac. We hang together at night and talk a LOT.
Keep having fun with your kids. They will remember it far more than a new TV or a new toy.
You rock!
I had to chuckle at the "I am not stepping on your toe, hard." But you did admit, you WERE stepping on her toe. :)
Too cute and you are a GREAT dad!!
well, i think you guys are a shoe-in for the scootering olympics, for sure!! i don't think anyone does it better than you!! nothing like "quality" time with the kids jay, you are a great dad!!
I must say I'm IMPRESSED that you could Super Scooter AND hold the camera!! WOW! GREAT Dad times! It goes back to one of my favorite saying..."Any one can be a Father, but it takes a REAL man to be a Daddy." You sire, are a fabulous Daddy!
Now she will give new meaning to "flat foot". You squished the crap outta her toes. Don't deny it, I heard her.
I can't wait to see you two on the center podium, accepting your gold for Scooter-lympics!!
had to watch the video again...never has someone else's neighborhood looked so interesting
I love Daddy pictures!! Awesome:-)
You are such an awesome dad. Really. It looks, and sounds like she had a lot of fun, and it will be something she can look back on and really appreciate.
Great video!!! Good luck with the Scootering Olympics! Thanks for stopping by T Rex Mom Tales.
Awww...you guys are cute.
LOVE This - and too funny - I JUST wrote a post about my father to post tomorrow???
Sheesh, Jay.......her toe. You need to remember that next time. Here's to your budding scootering Olympian! :)
You rock. You should have more men reading your blog!
That was absolutely precious!!!
I thought you would have a twang in your voice. I don't know why!
I felt like I was with you guys!!!
She is adorable...
Great post... really and truly!
i have wandered through your blog and really enjoyed myself! great honest writing.
You are a very fun daddy! Your children are VERY lucky!
That takes some mad skills to be able to scooter and video tape at the same time! And sure, your daughter may not be able to walk again due to broken feet, but she had fun with her dad!
: )
Thanks for sharing your daring adventure around the block :)
I'm pretty sure you don't need to worry about your daughter not remembering what a completly awesome dad she has!
Ahh, so sweet <3
I can't wait to see her in the 20something Olympics in the "Scootering" competition! That's gonna be awesome.
And you my friend, are an awesome "Dad." : )
Well, I always tell young moms, and this goes for Dads too. IF you are worried about how you are doing as a parent-- if you have guilt, and you wonder if you are doing okay, then chances are you ARE doing it right. The bad parents don't worry about this stuff. They just keep on doing the wrong things without a thought about if they are doing their best. I can tell you are a great dad:) I can SO relate to what you are saying about your dad, but we aren't our fathers.
I am so relieved you are ok. I recently took a header off my Razor (I know...I am all fancy here) and my knee and both wrists haven't been the same since.
