Viva La Rodent

The hardest part about being an aspiring performer these days is persuading Las Vegas that you have something new to WoW their slot-tugging aficionados.

That's why when I saw my son's latest act, I knew he had a winner. It's not just Mickey, it's Mickey Elvis. Note the karate stance, the pouting sneer, that bravado...

He's opening at Mandalay Bay next week. Ladies, please remember, he's only one. Panty throwing is not appropriate.

Don't be cruel. Thankyouverymuch.

She's little, but she's a GOLD mine...

Lil Miss C decided she desperately wanted to sell something at our garage sale this weekend, so I set her up with a cookie and lemonade stand next to our pathetic attempt to sell passers-by our garbage.

She cleaned up. NEVER underestimate the demand for icing covered cookies at 7am.

She sold every one of her cookies and every drop of lemonade. We had to turn away some folks due to poor inventory management, and we told every person who came by about St Baldrick's, and how the cookie money went to charity. She made $18, which she then loaded into a special little purse, and then promptly lost.

My 20month old son, Mr. B, found the money the next day. In the dog's crate.

I tell you, I have this joint running like a well-oiled machine.

She does this one thing with her hands...

Ok, if the title didn't get your attention, place a mirror under your nose and check for vitals.

From time to time I want to introduce you to people I respect for one reason or another, and today I point the sword at a friend blogger, Deb at Dirty Socks and Pizza.

Deb and I just got started putting thoughts out into the blogosphere thanks to our friends Nannette and Ann, and she continues to humble us all with her writing. I want to urge you all to go read her, bookmark her, and keep going back. I hope you can tell, I'm a big fan.

Today's post, Que Sera Sera, is a bit of a tear jerker, I'm not gonna lie to you. But whether she is talking about her family or Target's Christmas selections showing up in...(what was it this year...June?) Deb really paints a vivid picture of her thoughts and feelings, and is well worth a read.

After you scroll thru some of her posts, drop her a comment about her writing...she's like all of us, she wants to know we heard her. ;-) And after you read her, come back and tell me how awesome I am. Remember, I'm a male...we need constant encouragement.

We rarely flush the toilet around here.

I think it's time. Time we got it aaalllllll out there. And I will start.

We live in a nice home. Privileged by some standards, ghetto by others, but it's home. The thing is, no matter where you are in the house, the design is such that you can hear a pin drop just about anywhere. My kids are growing up with air purifiers and humidifiers in their rooms not in an effort to saturate and filtrate the joint, but to create white noise to cover other noises in the house and preserve our rest. And other activities. I digress.

Well, when my son was born, we began taking steps to keep him asleep that included ceasing any activity in the house that might ruse him. And that included, you guessed it...

"Don't flush when you're done...wait till he wakes up."

Without getting into too much detail, I will say that habit begets habit, and now we have a problem. We are relatively clean people, you see, but we are scared to death of random visits by friends and strangers alike.

For if you are to ring our bell one sunny day, and then listen for movement within our home, you may hear frantic footsteps followed by a couple of toilets purging themselves of their contents. Please hang on, we'll be right there.

Will you join in? It's time we got all this out on the table, and empathized with each other. Please share a blogger mommy/daddy home oddity, and help us feel part of normalcy again...we are not here to judge, simply to support.

By the way, I have my first contest coming this week. and it's gonna be a doozy. Keep your eyes peeled...and in the meantime, head over to Kristina's blog, she has a contest going right now...ends soon...HURRY.

Shave it, Baby...Take it ALL off...

So this is turning into "cause" week...

I want to tell you about a PHENOMENAL organization I was privileged to be a part of this year:
St. Baldricks.

On your own you can click through and learn how they started, but essentially they are a research and funding charity for children's cancer research.

The bare nuts of the process is that people raise money for childhood cancer, and then come together in empathy to shave their heads for the cause. I was fortunate enough to be part of the Austin, Texas shaving in March of this year, and the entire Austin venue raised almost $48,000 for childhood cancer research and fellowships. Just by jokers like me who shaved their heads. (Please ignore my weight in this photo...I dropped 30lbs since then...)

At one point in the event, Chandra, the phenom event coordinator, had us look up from the courtyard we were being shaved in and wave at the kids in the hospital window above that we were helping, who were all standing at the window waving back at us...there are few things in life that grab your heart as much as that moment did for me.

At another supreme moment a female doctor walked out of the hospital, into the courtyard, obviously moved by what was happening, and had the barber shear off her long, auburn locks. Incredible moments, by ordinary people.

So in March of 2009, it is time to shave again. Will you think about what you might do to support this unparalleled cause? Will you shave? Will you contribute? Will you come to watch, and clap, and cry, and celebrate?

I dont think there is much that will keep me away.

PS- It's coming...the first ever Halftime Lessons CONTEST!!!
Tune in Sunday for this phenomenal TRIPLE GIVEAWAY!!!

To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children; to earn the approbation of honest citizens and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of one's self; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived - this is to have succeeded. - Emerson
