A good day.

At the risk of being a bit Moonie, today the universe used a couple of people to remind me of some things.

About the importance of personal, physical contact.

and listening.

and hearing.

Learning about someone's life, and from their experience.

or perspective.

or pain.

Discovering that the happy milestones of your life have been visited by some, and your hard times lay ahead for others.

I, like many, keep a close eye on my life's wins and losses. But I'm doing a bad job giving the wins their weight. Today you gave me pause, enough pause to shelve some of my dejection, and again consider my blessings.

My mom always said that I would be able to count the number of true friends in my life on one hand. And she's right. But to put a person on that hand is to saddle them with a permanent expectation, and I'll rarely do that.

But the universe keeps handing me people. Really neat people. And I don't feel the need to label them, I just want it to be known I appreciate them.

So thanks, universe. Hope you liked Voyager 2...sorry about the Chuck Berry.

One thing about the universe...she's not one to kick a guy when he's down! Just when you think that the losses are starting to pile up and you may not have any real recovery...along comes Miss Universe and with one slight twist of the wrist, shows you that every thing is really pretty darn sweet after all! Isn't that just the best?

That's something I need to keep in mind too. I've got loads of aquaintances, but true friends are a rarity. I thank my lucky stars anytime I can count someone among my true friends.

Thank God for good days. We're all about friendship this week over at MWOB....so interesting that you have the same thoughts going on in your world. I like what you say about the personal physical presence and listening. That is one huge thing that blogging can not satisfy for me....the personal presence. Hmmmm....

Hope you have another good day...

Its so true, especially in these times we need to concentrate on the good, and not spend too much time thinking about the bad.

As a big believer in everything happens for a reason, the other part of that is that the right people show up in your life at the right time. They are there to support you, build you up, break your heart, or challenge you. But it all makes you who you were meant to be.

Jay, you have to come back or I'll hunt you down and beat you to a pulp!

But still a pulp!

Did you fall in the Shamu tank?

Come out, come out wherever you are!

Fine. I'll be patient.

To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children; to earn the approbation of honest citizens and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of one's self; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived - this is to have succeeded. - Emerson
